Samsung is set to release a new foldable smartphone in China on October 29, according to a leak from the tech tipster Ice Universe. The device, identified as the Galaxy W27, will carry a price tag that is $1,000 higher than the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. This premium pricing aligns with the brand's historical approach to the W series, which targets the Chinese market with exclusive design elements.
The leaked image reveals a phone with a glossy blue back panel and gold accents surrounding the triple-camera array. The specifications listed for the W27 match those of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Samsung's current top-tier foldable. The device does not feature the new shape found in the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, instead retaining the design language of the Ultra model. This choice distinguishes the W27 from the rest of the 2026 lineup, as the standard Z Fold 8 has been well-received by consumers for its updated form factor.
The Galaxy W series has served as a yearly tradition for Samsung in China, often featuring elaborate packaging and unique styling. While the 2024 Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition saw a wider release, the W27 follows the pattern of being a China-exclusive variant. The leak indicates that the W27 is a rebranded version of the year's flagship foldable, continuing a cycle where the top model is repackaged for the local market with added flair.
Market analysts note that wide-format foldables are gaining traction in China. Competitors such as Xiaomi and Huawei have been expanding their offerings in this category. Huawei has released wide foldables for a longer period than any other manufacturer, while Xiaomi's latest device mirrors the form factor of the new Samsung models. This trend is part of a larger shift in the industry, with foldable display shipments expected to rise by 44% in 2026 as more makers adopt the wider design.
Samsung has stated that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a commercial success, with the iPhone Duo helping to draw attention to the category. The company has also updated several Galaxy devices to Android 17. The W27 launch on October 29 is expected to be the final new foldable from Samsung this year, as the company prepares a number of new devices for the following year.
If the leaked date holds, the W27 will be the last entry in Samsung's 2026 foldable lineup. The device's release comes six days after the initial leak emerged, placing the launch in the immediate future for the Chinese market. The premium pricing and exclusive design underscore Samsung's strategy for its high-end foldables in one of its largest markets.
