President Donald Trump visited the Lincoln Memorial on Monday to inspect the completed repairs to the Reflecting Pool. He used the stop to deliver his final public message to voters one day before the 2026 midterm elections.
The President traveled from the White House to the memorial after holding nearly 30 rallies across the country. He said the Interior Department worked for months to finish the project. Trump claimed the work involved vandalism and praised the agency staff for their effort. “The people from Interior have been incredible. And the pool is now better and more beautiful than it’s ever been before. And we’re very proud of it,” he said.
Trump told the crowd that the upcoming vote is the most important in his lifetime. He argued that the Democratic Party selected its most extreme and dangerous slate of candidates in American history. He described the group as the most dangerous ever put up by the party.
Pollsters report that high cost of living is the number one issue for voters this cycle. The President did not address that topic directly. Instead, he described the U.S. economy as strong and resilient.
Trump acknowledged that the party in power historically loses seats in midterm elections. Republicans hold a razor thin majority in Congress and hope to defy that pattern. Final polls point to significant success for Democrats in the 2026 midterm elections.
