The average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County remained at $5.776 on Sunday, stopping a run of 29 consecutive days of price cuts.
According to data from the American Automobile Association and the Oil Price Information Service, the price fell 55.3 cents over that period. The decline included a 1.7 cent drop on Saturday. This downward trend started the day after a 44-day stretch of increases ended. That prior surge added 80.9 cents to the average, bringing it within 4.4 cents of the record high of $6.373 set on October 5, 2022.
Compared to one week ago, the local average is 11.5 cents lower. It sits 55.3 cents below the level from one month ago. However, it is $1.165 higher than the price recorded a year earlier. The average has risen $1.225 since the joint U.S. and Israel war against Iran began on February 28, which drove oil prices up and accelerated pump increases.
The recent price drops commenced four days after Governor Gavin Newsom announced on September 28 that cheaper winter-blend gasoline could be sold immediately. This moved the switch date forward from the customary November 1.
Nationally, the average price fell for the eighth straight day, dropping 1 cent to $4.173. The national figure is 11.6 cents less than a week ago and 24 cents less than a month ago. It remains $1.135 above the level from one year prior and has increased $1.191 since the attack on Iran.
