Times of San Diego won eighteen awards at the San Diego Press Club’s 53rd Annual Excellence in Journalism Awards. The organization took home six first-place wins and earned recognition in 13 distinct categories.

The newsroom achieved the highest ranking in the News Site category, securing second place. Judges identified this as the top distinction awarded in that specific field this year.

Lillian Perlmuter’s investigation into immigration enforcement practices earned first place in criminal justice reporting. Her story, titled “What happens when ICE arrests US citizens,” placed ahead of other entries in that division. The outlet also claimed second and third places in the same category.

The publication received second place in Breaking News for its coverage of the attack on the Islamic Center of San Diego. One judge noted that the reporting was very comprehensive and included two of the three main stories in Spanish.

“The ticktock was undoubtedly compelling and helpful to try to make sense of a senseless tragedy,” that judge wrote. Another panelist described the outlet as a sophisticated watchdog that provides a website filled with valuable information in two languages.

Times of San Diego also received recognition in ten additional categories. These included series, architecture and design, education, editorial, food reporting, history, military, sports, profile, and light column.
