Hawaiian homeowners are reporting that a social media prank known as the door-kicking challenge has reached their neighborhoods. The trend involves teenagers running up to residential front doors late at night to deliver a heavy kick or bang. The impact is intended to simulate a home invasion before the participants flee. Local authorities describe the behavior as a recurring issue in specific areas.

The phenomenon has been occurring for several months in Maui Lani, according to residents. Surveillance footage from local homes captures teens striking doors in the middle of the night. In Ewa Beach, a resident identified only as Mae reported hearing her front door kicked approximately five times around 9 p.m. on one occasion. She stated that the force of the impact shook the entire structure of her home. Mae said the experience felt like an intruder was attempting to break down the barrier.

Another homeowner, Matt, said he spent nearly $14,000 repairing damage and installing safeguards after a similar incident. He described hearing violent pounding on his door at 1:30 a.m. while asleep. Matt requested that his full name not be disclosed due to concerns about retaliation from the vandals. He has filed multiple police reports and contacted his homeowners association regarding the repeated disturbances.

Mae, who also withheld her last name to protect her privacy, expressed concern for neighbors experiencing the same issue. She noted that another resident in her area has suffered forceful kicks to their door. Mae urged parents to discuss property respect with their children. She told the teenagers responsible that repair costs are high and that the behavior is disrespectful.

Matt said he wants justice for the damage but acknowledged the participants are likely young. He suggested the trend might be a cry for help. He is now asking his community for assistance in identifying the individuals involved in the late-night pranks. The homeowners are using their public accounts to raise awareness about the specific locations and times of the incidents.

Authorities have not released a specific timeline for increased patrols in these areas. Residents continue to monitor their properties and share video evidence with local law enforcement. The viral trend remains active in the two mentioned communities as of this week.
