Arsenal drew level with Manchester City at 21 points on Saturday after beating Everton 2-0 in heavy rain at the Emirates Stadium, hours after Villa handed City its first league loss. Arsenal erased a three-point gap in the standings, and both sides sit even after eight games.

Ezri Konsa put Arsenal ahead in the seventh minute, bundling the ball in from a yard out after Martin Odegaard's corner caused trouble in the Everton box. Jordan Pickford stopped the initial attempt following a near-post flick-on, but the ball was not cleared. The goal was Konsa's first for the club and Arsenal's first set-piece goal since May, ending a run of 13 games in all competitions without one.

Arsenal made it 2-0 in the 68th minute, with Ben White marking his 200th game for the club by clipping a cross to the far post, where Gabriel headed in on his 200th Premier League appearance. Everton sit ninth in the table.

At Villa Park, Nicolas Jackson scored twice for Villa in a 2-1 win over City, ending the visitors' unbeaten start to the league campaign. Jackson put Villa ahead in the sixth minute after Marc Guehi's heavy touch allowed captain John McGinn to set up the striker. Erling Haaland headed in from Iliman Ndiaye's free-kick delivery to level after halftime, and Jackson struck again on the hour, finishing from Ibrahim Mbaye's cutback with his shot slipping under goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Villa climbed to sixth on 11 points, taking a first home league win of the season and a third straight league victory over City. Jackson told TNT Sports, "It's just the beginning; we're trying to work game by game."

City are awaiting an appeal after an independent commission found they committed 114 breaches of Premier League financial rules. The club has denied wrongdoing.

Tottenham Hotspur beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, their second league win there in 36 years. Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders, making his first league start, punched a corner into his own net in the 77th minute; Cole Palmer drew a second yellow card in the 80th minute after a late challenge on Conor Gallagher, and Mathys Tel sealed the score in the 87th minute. Fulham beat Coventry City 1-0 on an 80th-minute goal from Oscar Bobb. Spurs are 12th, Fulham 13th, and Coventry 19th.
