The jury in the murder trial of Beau Lamarre-Condon heard a secret recording of a prison visit where the 31-year-old accused discussed the fatal shootings of Jesse Baird and Luke Davies.
During the December visit, Lamarre-Condon told his friend, whose name is not public, that he fully accepts that the friend is now involved in the case because of him. The friend testified that Lamarre-Condon admitted to killing the couple and described the event as an out-of-body experience before suggesting it was a joke.
On the tape, Lamarre-Condon pushed back against the friend’s recollection of the events. He denied killing Davies to eliminate a witness, claiming he acted in self-defense instead. He also disputed the break and enter charge, arguing that entering Baird’s Paddington home was not a break and enter because Baird had given him a key. Lamarre-Condon conceded it was trespass but said it was normal to return to a former partner’s house to collect items.
The accused explained that he did not knock because he feared receiving an apprehended violence order, though he called out hello after entering. He told the friend that if he had planned the shooting, he would have been cool and calm. Lamarre-Condon said he would have had cleaning supplies ready and would have used a different firearm, adding that he could have bought another gun for $10,000.
Lamarre-Condon also mentioned taking the friend to Royal National Park in early 2024 to test the loudness of his police weapon. He said he planned to return there to end his own life due to suicidality stemming from work trauma. The friend, who was recorded by police, threatened to leave multiple times during the conversation, stating that what Lamarre-Condon was telling him might not be the truth.
The trial is presided over by Justice Natalie Adams. Lamarre-Condon has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder and one charge of aggravated break and enter.
