Apple is set to reveal a new MacBook Pro on October 28, but the laptop is expected to use the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips found in the current model. The company has scheduled the event for next week under the name 'Pro and tell.'

According to reports, the new laptop will feature a major design change. It will have a lighter, thinner body and an OLED display that supports touch input. The screen will also drop the notch in favor of a Dynamic Island.

The main surprise is the chip. The new MacBook Pro will use the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips that have been on sale for nearly eight months. This means the new laptop will not be faster than the current model. Apple is reportedly skipping the M6 Pro and M6 Max chips and moving directly to M7 Pro and M7 Max in 2027.

The new laptop is expected to cost more than the current model. Reports suggest the starting price will be around $2,999. That is a premium for a machine with the same performance. Apple might try to sell the new laptop at the same price as the current M5 Pro and M5 Max models, but that is considered unlikely.

Apple will have to convince professional users to buy the new laptop. Many of these users waited to buy the M5 Pro or M5 Max models earlier this year. The new design and touch screen may be enough to win them over, but it is not guaranteed.

Apple has not confirmed any of the details. The October 28 event will show how much of the reporting is correct and how Apple will position the new MacBook Pro.
