The Washington State Department of Transportation confirmed a complete blockage on U.S. 2 near Monroe, Washington, following a multi-vehicle collision Tuesday morning. The incident halted traffic flow in both directions across the western section of the highway.
Westbound lanes are closed at Fryelands Boulevard, located at milepost 13. Eastbound lanes are closed at Roosevelt Road, near milepost 10.5. This dual closure prevents through-traffic on a key regional corridor, forcing drivers to seek detours until crews clear the roadway.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding stated that at least three vehicles were involved in the crash, with a possibility of a fourth. One car rolled over during the impact, requiring emergency personnel to extract the driver. Two additional occupants were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
As of 6:15 a.m., no estimated time for reopening was available. Traffic officials urged motorists to find alternate routes while crews evaluated the scene. The patrol expects to release further details regarding the cause of the crash as the investigation proceeds.
The closure affects commuters and freight moving through the Monroe area. With both directions blocked, the disruption extends across the entire stretch between the two closure points. The WSP continues to manage traffic flow and gather data on the specific conditions that led to the accident.
