The Carolina Panthers and Green Bay Packers face off at Lambeau Field on Thursday night, with both teams seeking to erase disappointing performances from the previous week. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET. The contest pits two squads that recently suffered lopsided or narrow defeats against divisional and non-divisional rivals, setting the stage for a high-scoring affair.
Carolina enters the game with a 3-3 record after a 43-13 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 7. That defeat snapped a two-game winning streak for the Panthers. Green Bay, holding a 4-3 record, lost a closer 20-17 decision to the Detroit Lions. The Packers missed two field goals and failed to convert several other scoring opportunities during that contest.
Betting lines list the Packers as 3.5-point favorites, with the total points set at 47.5. Against the spread, Carolina is 3-3, while Green Bay stands at 4-3. The Packers lead the all-time series between the two franchises, 12-7.
R.J. White, CBS Sports' managing editor of Fantasy and gambling, predicts the total will go over. The over has cashed in seven of the last 10 meetings between these teams, a streak dating back to 2007. In Carolina's last 10 games, the over has gone 6-4. When the total is set between 46 and 49 points, the over is 1-0 in Panthers contests.
Carolina ranks fifth in the league in scoring, averaging 26.5 points per game, but allows 27.7 points. Quarterback Bryce Young has completed 59.2% of his passes for 1,712 yards, 12 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan leads the passing attack with 36 catches for 511 yards and two scores.
Green Bay presents a more balanced statistical profile, scoring 20.6 points per game while allowing 20.7. Quarterback Jordan Love has completed 60% of his passes for 1,958 yards, 13 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Despite Love's deep-threat ability, the Packers' receivers lead the league in drops.
Wide receivers Christian Watson and Matthew Golden are tied for the team lead with 34 receptions each. Watson has accumulated 595 yards and six touchdowns, while Golden has 512 yards and three touchdowns. The two teams will look to improve their respective defensive and offensive efficiency in this Thursday night showdown.
