Pedro and Ana Haro serve lunch from a counter in the Pioneer Plaza food court. The couple moved their business from Maui to downtown Honolulu one year ago. The shop is located behind the Bank of Hawaii on Fort Street Mall. It operates Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Haros took over the restaurant after their brother, Armando Haro, returned to Mexico. Armando originally started the eatery on the island. The siblings use recipes passed down from their mother and grandmother to maintain the original menu.

Pedro Haro described the business as a family dream rather than a single person's project. "Mexico was our original home; Lahaina was our new home," he said. "So being able to marry that together and bring food to people here is amazing."

The shop set up an ofrenda on Nov. 1 to honor their father, who died three years ago. The display features photos of the late patriarch alongside his favorite dishes. In Mexican tradition, Nov. 1 honors children and Nov. 2 honors adults.

The menu includes a traditional birria torta seasoned with garlic, onions, tomatoes, and spices. The dish comes with a dipping sauce made from family recipes. The couple also serves pork tostadas layered with refried beans and fresh lettuce.
