A viral door-kicking trend is causing physical damage to homes across Hawaii.

An Ewa Beach resident named Mae reported hearing her front door kicked five times at 9 p.m. earlier this month. She said the impact shook the entire house. Mae described the sound as powerful enough to feel like someone was trying to break down the door. She said the noise terrified her household.

Mae contacted reporters after seeing coverage of a similar incident on Maui. She learned that another resident in her Ewa Beach area also experienced the same prank. She believes the activity is happening frequently in her neighborhood. She chose to keep her full name and specific location private due to fear of retaliation.

A Maui Lani homeowner named Matt E. reported spending nearly $14,000 on repairs and security upgrades. Matt, who also withheld his full name for safety, described the experience of hearing violent pounding at 1:30 a.m. with the lights off. He called the incident unsettling. His costs covered the physical damage to the door and the installation of new security features.

Local residents believe teenagers are responsible for the pranks. Mae told the group that times are hard and fixing the damage is expensive. She described the behavior as very disrespectful to neighbors. She urged parents to talk to their children about respecting other people's property.

Mae encouraged anyone who witnesses or experiences the trend to report the incident to authorities. She said she felt bad for the Maui family experiencing the same forceful kicks. The goal of speaking out is to raise awareness about the growing number of complaints in both Ewa Beach and Maui.
