Nicole Taylor, one of the three identical sisters behind the country group Taylor Red, has died. Her sisters and bandmates Nika Taylor and Natalie Taylor announced the news in a social media post on Monday. Taylor was 35.
The sisters confirmed that Nicole died on Sept. 28. They noted that she had been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in 2022, roughly a year after their song "Country Money" went viral. By the time of her death, the cancer had progressed to stage 4.
The group began performing in 2010 in Mississippi under the name Red Roots. They changed their name to Taylor Red in 2018 and later relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue their music career. Their online popularity surged in 2021, leading to the diagnosis that followed the next year.
Natalie Taylor described the moment Nicole received the news. She recalled that they were in a public place when Nicole took a call from a nurse regarding her biopsy results. "I remember just breaking down in utter shock," Natalie said in a video posted with her sister. Nika Taylor added that the process involved numerous MRIs, scans, and treatments that created a stressful experience for Nicole.
The family held a private funeral service for Nicole. In their announcement, the sisters expressed gratitude for the fact that their sister was no longer suffering. "Nicole told us soon before she passed that she had peace," Natalie said.
Nika and Natalie described their reaction to the news as shock and heartbreak. They stated that their sister is at peace.
