The Steel Guitar Hall of Fame now occupies a permanent location within the Hawaiʻi State Archives, a division of the Department of Accounting and General Services. The relocation concludes a period of temporary housing and establishes a fixed site for the collection in the state capital.

Hawaiʻi State Archivist Adam Jansen confirmed the arrangement in a statement released on November 2. "We are beyond thrilled to be the new home of the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame," Jansen said. He noted that the move aligns with the institution's professional mission to preserve records of historical and cultural value.

Jansen emphasized the geographic logic of the placement, stating that it is fitting for an instrument whose locus began in the Hawaiian Islands to have its museum located in the same place. The archivist, who holds a doctorate in archival studies, described the partnership as speaking to both the hearts of the staff and their professional duties.

The steel guitar originated in Hawaiʻi in the late 19th century. It subsequently became one of the first major musical exports from the islands, reaching a global audience. The instrument's sound influenced multiple genres, including country music, blues, western swing, sacred music, and popular music.

The Hawaiʻi State Archives maintains the physical records of the state government. The Steel Guitar Hall of Fame collection joins other historical materials in the facility. Information regarding the collection is available at steelradio.org, while general details about the archives are posted at ags.hawaii.gov/archives.

The move provides a dedicated space for visitors to view the instruments and related artifacts. The hall of fame had previously sought a stable location to ensure long-term preservation of its items. The State Archives offers the controlled environment necessary for such materials.
