The Commercial Court of Luhansk Oblast ruled on Friday that Russia owes UAH 65.36 million, or roughly $1.6 million, to Oliiar for a stock of sunflower seeds lost to occupation in Svatove.
The dispute traces to a contract signed in October 2021, when Oliiar agreed to buy 4,700 tonnes of 2021 harvest seeds from Prydniprovske Agrarian Company LLC. The firm arranged for Svatove-Ahro LLC to store the crop. By the morning of 24 February 2022, the warehouse had released 2,592 tonnes to Oliiar, leaving 2,107 tonnes on site. Russian armed groups seized the facility shortly after the invasion began, and Oliiar never recovered the remaining seeds.
The court determined that Oliiar provided conclusive evidence linking the loss to Russia’s armed aggression. It ordered the Russian Ministry of Justice to pay the compensation amount, which was calculated using an expert valuation of the missing inventory. The ruling aligns with a previous decision by the same court, which ordered Russia to pay UAH 51.67 million to Trading House Agrokhim LLC for property lost in Svatove and Kakhovka.
Oliiar is registered in Pustomyty in Lviv Oblast. Iryna Zalizna is listed as the founder, and Iryna Podoba serves as director. The company now holds a legal claim against the Russian state for the specific value of the seeds held in the occupied warehouse.
